"I am because you are" - the philosophy of UBUNTU is fundamental in our work - enabling people to reach their potential and support those around them. It is only by working together that we are able to really create change." - Carly Tanur, Director
I am Carly Tanur. Along with others, I founded Mamelani Projects in 2003. I have been trained as a social worker through UNISA and have attended numerous courses equipping me to lead and manage Mamelani. I have always had a passion for people and am grateful to have had the opportunity over the last 7 years to build this organisation. Mamelani would not be where it is today without the commitment and dedication of the members of the Mamelani team. I have learnt so much from the people I work with and those whom we serve. I dream about a safe and disease-free South Africa, where people have the skills and resources to adequately take care of themselves, their families and their communities.
The reality we are faced with is harsh and I often feel overwhelmed by what we are tasked with as an organisation. But every day I am reminded that, although we are faced with many obstacles, the human spirit is resilient beyond our imagination, and that when we work together, we are more powerful than we think. My hope for the future is that all of those people who are working tirelessly to strengthen and develop their communities continue to have the passion and the strength to persist in their work and that most importantly, we find ways of working together to create the changes we want to see in our country.
