"I am passionate about working with people and uplifting my community by informing them about health issues. I am proud that I am able to make a difference in people's lives." - Nomvuyo Mbele
My name is Nomvuyo Mbele. I am a 34 year old mother of a ten-year-old beautiful baby girl. I am the second born of four siblings. I grew up in a very spiritual and religious home where family values were instilled from a very young age. My parents were very religious and that has helped to mould me into the respectful, humble and God-fearing person that I am.
I have been working for Mamelani Projects since 2007. Mamelani works with the community to try to improve their health knowledge through workshops and training about positive living, especially for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. I think that what Mamelani is doing is huge, trying to play a role in the effective management and eradication of HIV/AIDS. We are not only focused on workshops, but also offer emotional support and counselling to those who are in need in the community, who, because of the conditions under which they live, face many different challenges.
I have a love and passion for what I do. It is my way of giving back to my community because I know that not many people were lucky enough to grow up in a loving and financially stable family like mine. Working with the community has helped me to grow as a person. It has taught me to be non-judgmental and empathic because I believe that every human being deserves respect and human dignity, regardless of their HIV status or family background.
